Monday - Introduction to the Soapstone method of analyzing poetry. A close read of "Oranges."

Wednesday - An introduction to Edgar Allan Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado."

This Week: Sept. 26-30
Monday - Continue working on your outlines for your extended responses on Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. They are due tomorrow for 10 point HW grade.
Tuesday - Write your responses. They are due tomorrow at the beginning of the period. This will be your first full letter grade assignment.
Wednesday - Extended responses due. We will begin our short story unit today.

Thursday - We will do a close reading of Doris Lessing's "Through the Tunnel."

Wednesday - A discussion of rhetorical devices used in writing. A first look at "I Have a Dream" by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Thursday - Friday: A close reading and analysis of Dr. King's speech. All questions in your packet are due by Monday 9/19.

Tuesday - A review of the course and expectations

HOMEWORK: Construct a one-paragraph response in which you make an evidence based claim about the photos you saw in class today. Please use the details you observed as evidence to support your claim. If you need to review the photos we saw, click HERE for the notebook file.
Please be sure to have an English notebook and folder for class by tomorrow!
Wednesday - A review of writing strategies: Literary elements, techniques, and rhetorical devices.
Thursday - Friday: A close reading of Alice Walkers "Flowers" with annotating!
HOMEWORK: Finish all questions based on "Flowers" in your packets. Be sure to use text evidence where possible!
